Now we come to the crux. The club are willing to support the manufacture of "our" version of the New Zealand manifold to take the mighty Weber 32/36 DGV 5A. We are making an initial run of 15 units. Before we can do this however we need to know that they will be sold.

The price will be £200 all in. The buyer will need to pay an intial deposit of £100 with the balance of £100 payable on delivery. The deposit of £100 WILL be returned should the project fail for any reason.

There are some people that have already expressed an interest in aquiring this extremely rare performance item, so I will take the liberty of putting them on this list first.

1. Eddie Zetlein
2.Peter Pescud.
3. Graham Howard
4. Dave Baldwin
5.Peter, aka Ravenmaster
6. .John Slade
7. Dusty Bin

So that leaves just 8 manifolds. If you would like to reserve a manifold and go on this list please post a reply to that effect. Remember no manifold, no pay.
Once on the list you will have your manifold reserved but will need to pay £100 upfront.
Best Regards Eddie Cool

Once again in Chris McGoverns book he discusses the Twin Zenith set up in detail. One important point made is that The Le Mans cars performed superbly with this set up and the cars achieved 115 mph on the Mulsanne straight and won the coveted Index of Thermal Efficiency to boot.
If that isn't the ultimate set up then someone please show me something better.

I have never seen this set up on a later Series car but I have a gut feeling that it would be a real eye opener on a Holbay engine.
If anyone does feel like trying this please let us know what happens.

On my part shelf I have this Twin Zenith set up not knowing what to do with it.
I also have this 1600 engine and the LeMans camshaft. Could this be the beginning of a nice engine?
I also have the Twin Zenith set up for the iron head not knowing what to do with it. And a 1725 engine. Maybe it would give some zap on this single carb iron head engine??

At this moment I have more engines then cars!!

Hi,

I have been following this thread with interest and decided to experiment myself on my 1725cc engine and could do with any suggestions as to why I seem to get a feeling that the engine is 'pulling back/holding back' when I go to accelerate under hot or cold engine conditions

I could only find the inlet manifold that Dave Baldwin showed a picture of back in June (square, ally, plumming for water heating) and managed to get a new Webber DGV 32/36 Carb.
It is the type used on the 1600cc Escort with progressive choke.

I removed the spare material from the manifold to the shape of 'the block' gasket as per other threads and as per threads I have not replumbed the hot water system through the manifold.

The Carb is jetted:-

Main jets............140/135
Idle jets.............55/50
Air jets...............165/160
Pump jet.............50 (5W I think!)

I know I have good compression, I have new copper ignition leads, cap, rotor, points and coil.

Any Idea's would be much appreciated ,

Thankyou

The key here is that you are experiencing the hesitation that I and others have reported in this thread. You need to get hold of the three next larger sizes of idle jet. The idle jet is the one fitted to the Primary barrel. This is the one nearest the cylinder head. Forget the secondary one. Obtain a 0.60, 0.65, 0.7. This will cost about £10 . You simply unscrew the idle jet holder and the jet itself can be removed by gently pulling it. Gently push the new one home.
My car being a 1600 is happy with the 0.60 jet. Yours being a 1725 may require a size or two larger. Some people have reported that 0.70 is perfection.
Try it and see. Read the whole thread again and it will make sense.
Please report back your findings so we can confirm this is your fault.
Best Regards Eddie. Cool

Have not follow this tread to 100% and therefore confused. Why is this a better option then the Solex manifold? Carburetors lower on this manifold?

Since I don't really want to write the whole thread twice,( it's already occupying 9 pages) I must ask you to read the thread properly, ( don't be bl--dy lazy ) and you'll see why this manifold is far better than the Solex one.
Just try getting hold of a Solex manifold for starters. Nuff said OK?
Eddie.

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for your reply.
I have contacted Anthony who says that he has not heard of anyone needing anything over 0.60 for the idle jet and does not have anything larger. I have ordered one of these and will report back my findings.

Thanks again

Paul

OK Peter, you will find I have edited the post with the list of names on it.
Yours has been added to it.

When it is time to pay the £100 I will ask you all to make out cheques to the SAOC for £100 and send them to Peter Pescud at the Club Spares. This will be when the manufacture is imminent. We are still at the design and development stage at the moment.

The exciting part will be when I show you photos of the "Resin" prototype.
Then there will be a rush to claim the remainder.

Remember there is no guarantee any more will ever be made, so whatever you do, don't miss the boat. This manifold along with the 32/36DGV 5A will be the ultimate fuel induction system for any roadgoing Alpine. I can virtually guarantee that. If you want to experience this, get your name on that list folks. Do it here.
Best Regards Eddie Cool

Dusty, if you need a larger jet than the 0.60, then you can get them here at Southern Carburettors.

They carry the full range including the 0.70

I think that's a tad better than the Solex one.

After much further testing of the idle jet size I have now firmly decided that for my car the jetting is perfect with a 0.65 idle jet.
My engine is not really standard though but it should be somewhere close to what you all may need. Hence the reason for getting the range of sizes.
0.60 still had a trace of hesitation.

I know other people have ( particularly on an American club site ) recommended 0.70 but you will achieve better performance and economy with the smallest size that will achieve perfect throttle response.

For that reason I recommend 0.65 as being the sweet spot.
Since Anthony doesn't appear to stock it, try Southern Carburettors.

Best Regards Eddie Cool

Hi. Not a member yet, and am here because I'm thinking of buying a '68 Alpine with a Holbay engine in it. It was completely restored in 1984, but looks seriously scruffy now...I don't mind this as I like patina, it gives a car character. What's important is that it's structurally sound and mechanically good. I think this one is structurally OK. It's filthy under the bonnet though.

Now, I used to own an Alpine about 28 years ago, as a 20ish year old, and knew it to be fairly gutless...but I still enjoyed it. I'm a little keener on performance now though, and have just ploughed through this thread with interest [although I've got a hell of a headache now!]

As I understand it, I should be looking at buying a new Weber 32/36DGV, an Apollo CIS intake system by K&N, and an intake manifold...which is my first question...did you ever get around to making that New Zealand manifold you were on about? (edit - sorry, just realised that this thread is quite recent..so question is, are you going ahead with manifold production?)

The car has twin DCOEs on it at present.

I no mechanical wizard..merely a half reasonable diy mechanic. But I think I'm right [am I not] in think this mod is rerasonably easy to do..

Thanks for your help.
David
