As a new member to the club, and this being my first national i must admit i enjoyed it thoroughly. I recieved my horn yesterday and after reading through it i was some what confused about the comment on the so called fiasco of the Coventry run! I thought the run and the directions i was issued was very easy to follow, well my 11 year old daughter who was navigating us didnt seem to have a problem anyway. Perhaps this person was taking a leaf out of OB1's book and using the force to get there. I was also wondering how bus lanes, traffic lights and one way streets seem such a terrifing experience. I didnt realize that we only had these type of road layouts in Coventry. I feel that this article was a bit insulting to the people who organised it. i assume that organising such a large run would actually take some time to do and would not have been straighforward given the circumstances. I applaud the dedication of those involved and cannot understand why there is such a negative comment expressed in the horn when this seems to be one person's point of view.

To Editor of Horn

As the voice for all us members how can you be so negative and unsupportive, by saying “ well what a fiasco!”

I was the organiser of the “Coventry Run”. So here are the facts:
I went out early Thursday morning due to heavy storm the night before, to test run the route and I’m glad I did, as the route which was to go via Stoneleigh and the Royal Showground was closed due to flooding and tree’s had blown down across the road. I was informed to expect about 25 to 30 cars to join us, so I printed 40 new copies which were handed out at the start of run, these showed a simple route to Coventry Transport Museum. In fact 48 Alpines arrived at the Museum.
I know its easy when you know the area, but how easy can it get, A46 dual carriage way to Coventry ring road, go either way round the 1 mile ring and see at least two signs for the Coventry Transport Museum. I led the way only doing 50mph down the A46 to allow everyone to catch up, once there I walked back to ring road junction to direct all the late comers and I got soaked standing there in the rain. What could I have done better in the time and circumstances given ?
The Warwick National Committee spent a lot of time and effort organising this special event, then with the bad weather a lot more effort went in……and for you to say “well what a fiasco” is a disgrace to the club and our organisers.
I know you wrote this as a personnel view, but you of all people should know its read as “The voice of the SAOC”
