I have 1965 series IVA GT which was converted some years ago complete with hood bins and the folding panels. (before I owned it). The hood seems fairly weather tight but upon foldng down the hood, the frame fouls the bodywork and so the hood and mechanism will not fold down completely. I have the handbook and have followed the instructions carefully to lower and stow the hood, frame etc. The frame is not bent as far as I can see. I suspect the frame is either incorrectly fitted or is a non standard frame.
My questions are : Is there away of identifying the correct frame so I can compare it to mine? How can I check that it has been fitted correctly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Dave, I have done the same conversion, I did not have the metal strip that goes along the rear so I made one. I made it too long and the hood wouldn't go down properly so I got some measurement of another car, shortend it, and it works ok now.
Just a thought you's haven't fastend the sides of the hood down behind the two short metal strips, these are meant to be loose

No all the assembly is as should be. It was tight before, but the bulk of the mohair hood makes the panels really tight, I've got a sV bin + all the vinylpadding with it. Going in on monday! Keeping the steel panels though.

OK, you've confirmed that the sides of the hood lower edges are not fastened by the aluminium strips to the body.
All the frames from SIII to SV are interchangeable, and only differ in minor details, so you must have the right one.
You say 'the frame fouls the body?' Where? How?
Have a look at the main hinges. You will see that there are ramps on the fixed parts of the brass pivots which force the B pillars inwards as they go down. Are these working correctly?

Thanks for the replies.
When folding the frame, the frame work that is normally located immediately behind the rail (that attaches to the windscreen frame) seems to be the problem. The tubular section fouls the front edge of the body work where folding panel meets the boot - but not by much (about 1"). If the tube was less arch shaped (i.e. flatter in profile), it would fold down fully. I will enclose photo if my description is not clear enough.

Many thanks
Richard

I know that some people believe I am wrong, but I put the header railinto the bin first then fold the hood in - no fouling on the hood bins for me.

Thanks for the ideas - I'll have another look at the frame as I think this is the culprit. I may be able to adjust it as the only current option seems to be brute force which I am sure isn't how it should work !

It does sound as if your frame is bent. It would normally clear by at least 1 inch. But if it's bent upwards, I would have expected the side frames to be pulled in and not match the door glass. Maybe best to detach the fabric from the side pillars and lay it back over the boot while you get the frame to fit?
