It is with much regret that the Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club announces the passing of its founder Chris McGovern.

Born in 1952 Chris bought his first Sunbeam Alpine in 1976 and the next year launched the SAOC seeing it grow to be one of the most successful one marque clubs in the UK.

Holding several posts during his time with the club including Spares Officer, Chairman and Club President, Chris had a special interest in Rootes group cars particularly the Alpine and in 1980 published perhaps the definitive guide to the marque ‘Alpine The Classic Sunbeam’

The UK classic car scene has a debt of gratitude to Chris and people like him who have put huge amounts of personal time and effort in to making the club scene what it is today.

It is of particular sadness that Chris will not see in 2007, the 30th anniversary of the club he founded. This is perhaps the greatest legacy he leaves us, a flourishing and welcoming Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club.
