Hi Bill

I agree that the response on the forum has been disappointing. However we have been discussing how we should achieve our aim of a gathering in Cannes & it has been suggested that different people may like to journey down in different ways maybe travelling quickly over just a few days or on in a more relaxed manor over a week or so in a group which may appeal to those not so familiar with driving their Alpine on the continent.

What has been drawn to our attention is that it is not so much how we get there but what we do when we arrive in Cannes. To these ends we are planning to put together an organising sub committee for this event to help come up with some good ideas and organise the event in Cannes.

We already have a couple of volunteers for this, would you like to offer your services too? if so let me know as we are trying to set up a meeting in February.

Steve

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I thought I would let anyone and everyone who was interested, that the trip to Cannes in 2009 is being organised and I thought I would outline our intensions for the trip:

1. The date of the celebrations will be from September the 4th to the 6th. We thought that 1 night of an informal gathering and 1 night of an official celebration that would include a drive down the Croisette would be sufficient. We have chosen these dates as the weather will be more bearable and also it is after the season of festivals that Cannes has each year and also after the French come back from holiday.

2.We will not be organising routes for people to get there, although if people wish to join in small groups and tackle the trip together, we could suggest certain routes and may even be able to have a list of people who are going, so small group can be formed.

3.Costing - this will be worked out shortly to give a rough idea to everyone how much the two days will cost.

4.We are looking into trying to get preferential rates at camp sites near to Cannes and are in negotiations to get preferential rates at one of the large Hotels on the Croisette for the reception.

I will keep you all informed of any developments and look forward to any comments to suggestions.

Regards

Stephen Moorshead and Roger Granger

Hi there,

it is really great news that the CANNES Meeting is being organized & will be held in September 2009. On behalf of the German Sunbeam Club we can tell you that weŽll also try to get a significant group of participants together in order to support your event.
The timing appears good because it will be after Franch main vacation season respectively after our annual Club Meeting in August. We should be able to also mobilize a few Switerland guys and if not done already would recommend you to also inform our Spanish friends.

Looking forward to have another great "Funbeam" year in 2009.

Sincerely

Bernd Duee (Vize President Sunbeam Club Germany)

Hi Barry

just to let you know Stephen Moorshead (contact number in the Horn and on the Web site) & Roger Granger have been working on this project for about a year now and there should be something in the next Horn or on the web site soon regarding progress.

If you were at the nationalal this year you should have seen some flyers etc about it, Stephen was talking to many people about it.

Look forward to seeing you in Cannes

Just to confirm that I will be at Cannes, one not to be missed I reckon, I will be taking a grand tour also taking in Spain on the way back. I also heard there was a plan by the English / French as in David and Mey to take the cars over to Corsica after the event! will try to confirm this.
