Hi Fellow alpiners

I recall when I had my first Alpine Series4 in the late 1960's I bought a soundproofing kit which included a preshaped mat that fitted under the single skin area of the bonnet. Well yes it was decades ago but I wondered if there is still access to these. I have managed to add soundproofing to the rest of mt Series5 quite successfully

Also has anyone soundproofed / lined the boot with effect

Thanks

Pre-cut soundproofing kits were available for most makes of cars, and if there was not a kit for yours it was possible to buy the material by the yard.
By making a paper template it could be cut to fit, using the appropiate adhesive.
I would have thought this material was still available through upholstery/fabric trimmers etc specialists.

However I could never understand why one would want to make an open sports car quieter, surely much of the joy is to hear the crackle of an exhaust and the roar of the air intake gulping!!! - unless you always had the hardtop on and needed peace and quiet for long journeys.
Also think of all the added weight on top of an already heavy car.

Well Thanks for the reply.

Not sure I totally agree about the sound - 40+yo car and much much older owner would seem to indicate some level of mid to late life crisis. But I do appreciate a goo exhaust 'burble'

My car is strictly a fairweather car these days - sunshine motoring, of which we have plenty

True I can buy off the shelf pressure adhesive material but these are not always flameproof. The kits that were once available we very well made with sealed edges and from fire retardant materials.

Yes the proper kits always looked OE and not an afterthought.
I would have thought that felt could be treated with some sort of spray so as to make it inflammable.
