I was reading through Chris McGovens book and was amazed to read that in 1980 just three years after he formed the SAOC the membership was 800+

So it got me thinking on when did the club have it's highest membership ? and how has it has varied through the years.

Was this question too difficult ?

So far as I am aware we do not have the records pre 2000, when I took over the membership. I have reported membership numbers each year since then at the AGM. Last year we had 663 members

Hi.

Simon's posting reminded me where I had the figures. I'm a bit of a hoarder for club minutes. And have found the following information. (In the loft!!)

SAOC Membership numbers.

1997 - 830
1998 - 882
1999 - 900
2000 - 882
2001 - 808
2002 - 786
2003 - ?
2004 - ?
2005 - 647
2006 - 614
2007 - 641
2008 - 621
2009 - Awaiting figure

I have 1633 Alpines on the database known to be in use or being restored. Just think how busy the Forum would be if everyone signed up!!

David Bradleys list has no figures for 2003 and 2004.
Having now spent 2 hours bashing through the paperwork,
2003 was 787 at the AGM, and 807 at year end. The AGM minutes for 2004 record that a written report was received from the membership sec, but I do not have a copy. The committee minutes do not give a conclusive figure for 2004
